Greetings! My name is Steve Haley. It is my privilege to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year as Principal of Chillicothe Middle School. This summer has been filled with activity in preparation for the upcoming year. I am pleased to assure you that we have the highest quality teachers and staff whose focus is on providing what is best for kids. The programs we offer and the efforts that have been made through the years have made things better for students. Those efforts have continued as plans were formulated this past spring and continued throughout this summer.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Life Point Church volunteers for taking on painting projects here at CMS. It was great seeing volunteers step up to help us make our facilities more inviting. We have been blessed with tremendous support for many years! It is certainly good to work in a community that supports our school in so many ways!!!! Many things have been done to our facilities to make things better for our students. The building’s floors have been scrubbed, sealed, and waxed and shine. There has been a great deal of painting as mentioned above and our custodians have painted some areas as well. We have new entrance doors to our West campus and have remodeled rooms for our Family and Consumer Science program and our Behavior Support Center. Our facilities look good and our custodians and maintenance workers have worked hard this summer to get things ready. They have put a good deal of pride and effort into the job they have done and are to be commended. This summer has brought with it very good cause for optimism with our strong base of faculty members. We have been able to add other elective classes as well to give the students an opportunity to explore areas of interest. With these new additions and the professionals in place, we have the potential to continue to improve on the good things we are already doing for our students.
There are some important dates that I want you to be aware of as we get student information ready for the upcoming year. August 13 will be our enrollment day. 6th graders will enroll from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM, 7th grade from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, and 8th grade enrolls from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM. If you are unable to make it that day you will be able to come in between August 13 and the first day of school to fill out the information and have your child get their picture taken for their ID. The evening of August 13 we will have a 6th grade (and 7-8 new to the district) student orientation opportunity for parents starting with a general meeting in the Field House at 6:00 PM. August 20 from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM will be our CMS Back to School night for grades 6-8. We will be having our Fall Sports Parent Night August 27 starting at 6:00 PM for athletes that will be participating in Fall sports (Football, Girls Volleyball, and Girls Softball) for 7th and 8th grade students. There are many other details and positive things we have going for us that are beyond the scope of a welcome back letter. Those details will be covered though various functions and communications throughout the year. I encourage you to check out the middle school calendar on the district website to keep informed as to upcoming events and to be very involved in your child’s education. I look forward to this school year and working together as partners with you as we make things the best we can for our kids!
